Dear all,
Welcome to our first online discussion about the country situation that we are living right now. It is really important that we all share our opinion respectfully and with correct vocabulary. Remember this will be a space that the school will have access too.
Now, regarding the topic that I'm proposing, what do you think about the rapid spread of this virus and people's reaction when it reached Stage 3-4 in our country? 😰
What could we do to prevent our family members from falling into this collective paranoia? 😕
Leave your comments below with your name and class ("Carla V. - 4M", for example), so I can check that everybody is commenting the topic. This activity requires everybody's participation and it will count as part of your responsibility grade 😁.

ReplyDeleteI believe that the spread of the virus is very dangerous and that is why we must take many precautions and take care of ourselves, such as staying home as much as possible

Thanks, Lucía for your comment and I totally agree with you, we must stay at home so we avoid any possibility of getting this illness.
DeleteI think we should not panic at all, just stay calm and wait everything to go back normal, i have seen lots of people spending lots of money just in soap and face masks. That is a little excessive.
ReplyDelete-Lukas Reinecke 1°A
You are right Lukas. Some people don´t think about the others´ needs. They don´t even think that they can get contagious by those who couldn´t buy because they had bought all the products. It´s not just the money they spend.

I believe this virus is very contagious so we have to take precautions like staying at home, wash our hands frecuently, etc. But I think we have to be conscious and not be compulsive at the time of buying what we need. This is because we have to be solidary with our community.
ReplyDelete-Roberto Valiente 3ero medio A
You're totally right, Roberto. We need to pay attention to what we buy and we need to get only what we really need. Good thoughts you put in here.
DeleteMiss Carla
I think that We have to be more supportive and not buy in excess, leaving our houses as little as possible. If we all do this, we are making a great contribution to the health system because it cannot bear a crisis like this. i think this is the best we can do because if the sistem collapses i'll be too difficult help people who really needs it.
ReplyDeleteJaviera Valenzuela 1roM A
Well said, Javiera. I think you made a good point when you said that we should leave our houses as little as possible.
DeleteOn a separate note, I would pay attention to some words that were misspelled, but in general, everything was fine.
Miss Carla
I personally feel that people are not realizing the greatness of this virus. It seems to me that they try to control everything they have at their disposal (like buying everything they see in the supermarket) because we know that getting infected is uncontrollable. What could be avoidable is the collapse of the system and therefore all the measures that have been decreed. I feel that for now all the measures they have put in are extremely good: closing schools and universities for 14 days as well as shopping malls, restaurants, bars, pubs, cinemas, etc. in order to avoid contact with people.

I think the chilean government has acted irresponsibly knowing the danger of the virus and how fast and easily it spreads. We should've an obligatory quarantine and the prices for hygiene items should be frozen instead of going up.

ReplyDelete-Rosario Gaete III°MA
Indeed, we must do that. And it is really important what you mentioned, getting the correct information helps a lot when avoiding hysteria.
DeleteGood job, Rosario
Miss Carla
I think this epidemic was the result of lack of management from the governments, especially in Europe, because the measures taken were not the appropriated, and they tried to see this as a disease like any other, but unfortunately it was not.
ReplyDeleteNow we have to be extremely careful with the spreding, we have to take care of our family the best we can and respect the security measures.
These are times of madness, because we do not know what is to come, but we have to stay united and help each other, not leaving the rest exposed by hoarding resources, so that way, and luckily, the amount of cases does not continue growing.
Alonso Lira- 3A
Excellent job, Alonso... I totally agree with you with every single bit of your comment.

Miss Carla
I think that right now there's a thing where we are oversaturated with news and information that is not always true and sometimes is only trying to scare us or cause paranoia, I think that is important to control how much information we recive and to check the veracity of the information. We have the privilege to stay at home and have the resources to do so, so obviously we have to contribute and stay home especially now that the government is taking messures that in my opinion are not enough. We are not the risk group, we are not the ones that are going to have several complications if we get sick but we must have empathy and think of others.
ReplyDeleteTania Aguilera

Very good comment Tania! It is important to be aware of our privileges and be sympathetic with others!
DeleteI think that the measures taken by the government are insufficient, therefore it is very important that we don’t go outside unless extremely necessary.
ReplyDeleteIt is also important that we double check the information that we share and make sure we’re not spreading fake news that despite our intentions could cause more damage than good.
Amparo Carroza, 4to A.
That´s right Amparo. We must understand that to be at home is the only way to protect ourselves and others until more measures are taken. Besides, we shouldn´t believe in everything before checking.
DeleteIn my opinion the rapid spread of the virus has enormously affected almost the entire world, it is a surprise that the most infected countries are the most developed ones. This is a serious problem that we should be concerned about, not only because it rapidly spreads, also because we are not prepared to address this pandemic. We don’t have either strong health systems nor enough medical corps.
ReplyDeleteIgnacia B.-3MA
Interesting point you've made here, Ignacia. We could comment a lot about why this disease started its spread from highly developed countries. Very interesting, good job!
DeleteMiss Carla,
I think that in our countries the level of political commitment and the actions that the government take demonstrate that commitment don't match the level of the threat we all face. People need to be more careful with this situation and if your economic situation permits you to stay home, you must do it.
ReplyDeleteMatías Ortiz 4°MB
Indeed, this situation requires a lot of commitment from all sides of our society. It is really important that people stay home and if they can, work from their homes. I really hope that no one loses their jobs because of this crisis...

ReplyDeleteI think this pandemic is really serious, even more serious than what some people want to believe. It showed us that even the biggest countries were not ready for something this big. I believe the best thing we can do is stay home so we can try to stop or at least slow down the spread of the virus. Some young people are putting the rest at risk because they don't understand that just because probably nothing will happen to them if they catch the virus other people could have really bad experiences and even die. I hope everyone takes this seriously and stay home as long as they can.
ReplyDeleteAmanda Grau 4MA
Yes Amanda! It´s not time for partying and hanging out. We must find ways to have fun at home, and continue our studies or work at the same time.
DeleteI think that the rapid spread of the virus was expected due to how contagious it is, and it really has certain risks especially on elder people. Even if i think that taking precautions and staying home is very important, I personally believe that the reaction of certain people taking all the cleaning products was very selfish and overreacted, because it left other people without access to these fundamental supplies.
ReplyDeleteBenjamín Solís 4ºM
It shows how selfish some people are, Benjamín. Hope they are the fewest and most of them are generous and think about the others.
DeleteI think the best we can do right now is stay at home. That way, not only we'll avoid getting sick, but we'll decrease the chances of a person that is actually vulnerable to the virus of getting it. So let's take in consideration how serious this outbreak is and how we can help slowing down the quick spread.
ReplyDeleteCaterina Silva, 4MB

I think that the government managed did a poor management of the situation, they put a curfew instead of declaring general quarantine for the entire country. Also I think that media has generated the panic among people and supermarkets made profit about this situation.
ReplyDelete-Francisca Feliu, 3MB
I believe you're right, Francisca. The government has been making decisions that could have been made earlier. However, a full quarantine can also be detrimental for the development of our country, I think that's why they haven't decided that yet.

ReplyDeleteI think what is happening is serious. The spread of this virus is faster than I thought, since from one weekend to the next the number of infected people increased quite a bit.
ReplyDeleteI think that the reaction of young people (from my circle of friends) was good since there was automatically an awareness that you had to take it seriously and stay at home because it is the only way to keep it from spreading. that the rest of the people have taken it seriously. On the side of working adults, I think that the situation is much more complex than just staying at home, many Chileans need to work day by day to be able to eat, and for this reason, quarantine is a thousand times more complicated for them. which the goverment should take the letters of the matter and help those people financially so that a national quarantine is carried out as it should. As a society I do not think that it is taking it seriously as it should be, the government acts irresponsibly not decreeing a national quarantine and even that the health minister makes comments such as lowering the profile of the situation instead of devising a way of being able prepare hospitals and people for further spread.
We must stay in the house and be as hygienic as possible and wait for all this to happen.
Antonia R 3MA
Wow, powerful thoughts here... Great job on how you carried out these comment.
DeleteNow related to it, it is true what you say that the government should help people, who need to work day by day to eat, by giving them some resources and in that form, we can have a full quarantine. In many ways, I believe similarly to you, that the government hasn't taken this situation as seriously as it should and that's why we're having certain consequences.
Miss Carla,
I think that the rapid spread of the virus was because a lot of people didn't take it seriously, maybe they were uninformed and didn't take the measures to prevent it. In Chile it expanded rapidly because the goverment didn't take inmediate measure, until today, which is hurting many people in every sense. The only thing we to do is staying in our houses. And perhaps it is a good time to strengthen ties with people who live in the same home, like family, grandparents, friends or partner. Also we have to avoid staying connected all day, we must distract ourselves as much as possible, reading, drawing, playing music, exercising, etc. Everybody is living a delicate situation.
ReplyDelete-Luar Meira , 4MA
I totally agree with you, Luar. Excellent piece of reflexion you've made here. I think information is crucial and having a fast response to the citizens is also a tremendous factor to avoid the propagation of the disease.
DeleteLet's hope that everything goes back to normal soon and we don't lose more people in the process. Take care of you and the ones that are at home.
Miss Carla,
The reaction of the people seems very impressive to me the collective panic that exists is our worst enemy at the moment.I think that to take care of ourselves and not continue spreading the virus, the most important thing is to stay at home and wash your hands.

I honestly think that the coronavirus is a disgrace, for all the infected and all those who have died, but I am too happy because the environment is improving even a little.
ReplyDeleteGabriel Valenzuela.-3B
Yes, it is improving a bit... The important thing here is to take the correct measures to avoid getting infected. And I agree with you, it is a disgrace.
DeleteMiss Carla,
I think the fact that the virus spreads so quickly and easily it has made the population worry, but we have to stay calm and do all the measures they tell us and staying at home.
ReplyDeleteJosefa Venegas, 3MB
Well said, Josefa. We have to remain calm and take all the possible measures we can to keep our families safe. I believe this is an opportunity to reunite with our families and reconnect.
DeleteMiss Carla
i think that we should leave our houses just when is absolutly necessary to avoid contact and just not fall in histeria because that is not gonna help anybody but that doesn´t mean that we shouldn´t be carefull, we just have to stay calm and safe in our houses and hope this all goes away soon.
ReplyDeletealso I think that there is a lot of fake information about this virus and that the goberment is not handling this situation very well and that we should not obsess with the subject and just relax for awile.
Amanda Pardo 1MB
Yes, totally. I thinking that it is quite difficult to imagine people fully secluded at home, with no contact with the exterior; so going outside must be only when necessary.
DeleteRegarding fake information, I think that is affecting a lot to the reaction that people have, because they don't know who to believe. It's really complicated, that's why I recommend everybody to take a close look at the resource where they found the information and see whether you can trust it or not. Keep yourself informed, but it has to always be "well" informed.
On a separate note, be careful with your spelling (hysteria, careful, government, gonna (informal) = going to (formal)) and with the use of subjects that sometimes you forget ("just when /IT/ is absolutly necessary")

There are many hypothesis about how this started. We have the theory about the trade
ReplyDeletewar between China and The United States, we have the bat theory, the biological
weapon testing theory but we really don’t know the beginning. Italy is submerged in a
complete catastrophe, Spain is falling apart and now the Corona virus is infecting Latin
America. In Chile we are fighting (in my opinion) with two main enemies. First, the
world pandemic that is Covid-19. But no less important, our inoperative government
and especially our ministry of health. We have public hospitals without the necessary
medical supplies to help victims with this illness. We aren’t in a total quarantine and all
the jobs that can’t be done on a virtual way are exposing workers to danger of getting
sick. A lot of people need the money to feed their family, pay their bills and
fundamentally subsist. These people are exposed because of the selfish managing
choices that our government is making. The authorities are not easing the bills or their
due dates, so people can’t stay inside their homes keeping themselves safe. This is
terribly unfair, and all that we can do to help is stay inside our houses. I feel very
powerless. I see mothers in prison pleading for their children not be taken to the
Sename. I see immigrants in the street and I think, what will happen to them if they
catch the Corona virus? Their situations are precarious and there is not much ordinary
citizens can do about it. I give supplies to hospitals, I constantly keep myself updated
on the news, I keep myself informed, but I feel powerless. Absolutley powerless. It’s
devastating seeing how a group of people tonly think about their wallets, even if there
are people dying on the street. We can clearly see how selfish and unfair our
government is.- Javiera Ruiz 4to B
Miss Patty
I read your passionate spirit through your writing, Javi. It´s easy for me to picture you while reading your post.
DeleteExcellent use of English!
Congratulations!
It is an important issue and the government has not given it the weight it deserves, giving greater importance to things such as a curfew or painting plaza dignidad instead of caring for the people and decreeing necessary things as a total quarantine, because that It is useful to have a partial quarantine if there are still people who have to go to work and take the subway.
ReplyDeletemartin matta 4mb
I think you wanted to say that it is useless to have partial quarantine when there are people going to work by subway, but yes, I agree with you.
DeleteProbably the measures taken have not been enough or the best ones, and all is related to the fact that the government hasn't acted on time or with the best common sense. I think we should continue to keep our faith that sooner or later everything will be alright because everybody, including the government, will help in this crisis.
Miss Carla
I think that the Covid-19 is not as strong as many people thinks, I mean, in China the virus wasn´t very massive, and they stopped it fast, the real problem is the quantity of people infected, and the speed of its spread, in Chile we are having +100 infections per day since we had 200 infections, and i think this is because our government is unqualified to have this crisis. In Santiago at least the people don´t know so good the proceedments, they bought masks when we didn´t have infections, and now that we have a lot we don´t have masks to use. Another problem is that the mean people is using the crisis as a way to earn money, selling fake alcohol gel or just raiding a bank.
ReplyDeleteFelipe Lagos 1 MB
When I say it wasn´t that massive is because for the millions of people that are in China, they only had 100.000 infections (as i know)
DeleteI agree with you when you said that the virus isn't as strong as we believe, because molecularly speaking it doesn't have many chances of surviving in certain environmental contexts, the problem is to contain its propagation, that is key to solve this issue.
DeleteIn terms of grammar, I noticed very few mistakes, for example "people thinks", it should be "people THINK". Additionally, there's a vocabulary error such as "proceedments", it should be "PROCEDURES".
Overall, it is a good text that you gave us. Good job!
Miss Carla
I think that the government cant keep taking so long to give real social and labour protection, so that everyone is actually able to quarantine.(Not just a part). And do it decently. To really protect our and others health. The worst part is how ambiguous are the answers to the quarantine urgency. But how quick are they to put the military on the streets?

I think this virus is not lethal enough to be more important than influenza but it can get serious if it infects a lot of people. ReplyDeletevicente Muñoz 1° medio B
DeleteI don´t think we should panic about the virus, but we should take the necessary precautions. It seems to me that the precautions that the authorities are taking are good, for example staying at home or washing your hands more often. We must also be supportive and only buy what is necessary in the supermarket or share the shifts of the house, condominium, building, etc... to prevent workers from having to move and can stay in their houses.

I believe that the government should declare a general quarantine, and take better measurements than they are taking, because every day there are more people infected, so we have to stay at home, so that the virus does not continue to spread. It is a very dangerous virus and, although some of us would not be as much affected by having the virus, we must think about people with other diseases or the people with few resources that could seriously affect very much their health, we have to be aware of the seriousness of the issue -Manuela Barra 3ro MB
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteAs this virus is a recent thread to humanity, it is a very complex thing to analyze. Researchers and investigators around the world are just beginning to get conclusions about the virus.
South American countries have been later exposed to the virus than Asian or European countries, this gives us some advantage as we can use their experience and follow successful examples of countries who have a minor contagion rate or fastest decrease in infected people.
Some of them are:
Young people need to take care of the elder, this is the group that has more health complications if infected with Covid-19.
Second, everyone has to follow the rules of their governments and health organizations. Is crucial to stay at home, keep high hygiene measures and avoid direct contact with others.
It is also important to filter news; avoid fake news and always check the author of the information we share with others. Fake news may generate panic and push people into buying all in the supermarket and leave others with nothing.
¿What can we do?
Don´t share fake news and buy only what is necessary for you.
Raimundo Solís 3 MB
The coronavirus is a big thread to any country if it isn't managed as it should. It's necessary to give the population the idea of responsability about self-quarantine. For these, also the government has to make them been sure of being able to survive too a quarantine without working, having food, and knowing that if they get coronavirus with hard symptoms, they will have space in a hospital, but these won't happen in Chile, because the president and his gabinet give more importance to the economy than the people who elected him. The managment of the crisis has been awful, and ending the crisis, the minister of health, Jaime Mañalich must be removed inmediatly, this just because of his managment of the crisis without thinking in his other mistakes as minister and after being minister.

ReplyDeletesomething very important is that approximately the test are taking 70 hours and of the 1140 peoples with coronavirus have symptoms, that is to say that there are too many people without knowing that they have coronavirus infecting many more people.
therefore it is very important that total quarantine be declared
I agree with almost everything, Maki, I think that it is really important that we identify all the people who are carrying the virus and that could help it spread faster. But having a total quarantine seems a bit complicated as it is hard to "stop" a whole country. Although it may mean the solution to this problem.
DeleteIn terms of grammar, be careful with adding "s" to "people", the word people is already plural, so no "s" needed.
Miss Carla
At first, I didn't think it was a big thing. I thought that in two weeks it would be all back to normal. But then, I saw how the government was responding to the issue. ReplyDeleteI believe that there was a large number of infections in a short time because the state itself did not take measures from the beginning, for example the mall closed them us a few days later. We must not only be in solidarity when buying but also with the community that surrounds us, for example neighbors, relatives, etc. since we do not have as much risk as others close to you may have.

I think we should take precautions but without ending up getting upset, because the more upset we are, the more risk of shortages and misunderstanding of what is going on, we should calm down, but it is true that it is a very important virus which is infecting Many people

i think is very important not to panic because that`s the worst thing that could happen and stay home because as we all now is very risky to go outside right now and remember to wash our hands and don`t touch our faces too much.
ReplyDeleteLaura, I agree with you. We shouldn´t panic, but do things sensibly!
DeleteIT is very risky
I think that even if it is indeed a very concerning situation we should not panic, we should all stay home and wash our hands so we don't spread the virus and specially try to have the least contact with vulnerable people.

Yes, Rocío. You are absolutely right!
DeleteI believe that it is important for our people who belong to the elderly, smokers, and people with diseases that leave their defenses on the ground, and for this reason we all have to take care of ourselves so as not to infect others who could be one of those named, or close to any of these

Great opinion, Omara!
DeleteI think that we need to take care of ourselves so we don’t keep spreading the virus and infecting more people. I also think that the covid-19 will probably keep advancing and it can be even more dangerous for our health, and obviously we need to stay in our houses and wash our hands :)

I think the virus spreads so fast throughout the world and also in our country. My view of the government in this situation is that they do not take sufficient and necessary action on the virus. I think we should take every precaution to avoid covid-19, stay home, wash your hands many times a day, and stay calm.

I think one of the most important causes of the rapid spreading of this virus is people who should be in quarantine and are not doing it, like the guy who took a plane when he should have been in isolation, or the woman who got bored of being in quarantine and went to a mall, and many more who aren't taking this as serious as they should. ReplyDeleteWell, I think that this situation can become a worse situation than we imagine, if we dont take the necessary measures such as respecting quarantine, washing hands, etc. I also think that the governmet should focus more on people's health than on the economic stability of the country.
I think that this situation is very complicated and we have to take care about us. I think that we have to being in quarantine for 2 weeks and wash our hands. Also, We have to keep in contact with persons we love but online, to avoid more infections.
ReplyDeleteI think that our athorities are acting very badly... but right now we have to stay home and take care. avoid physical contact is important because you help others and yourself. the situation is probably getting worse and we have to be prepared.
ReplyDeleteI think that due to the "delay" in the delivery of information to people, people reacted without thinking and that collective paranoia was created and caused many people to supply themselves unnecessarily. And also people did not think it alone.

The rapid spread is a consequence of the irresponsibility (first) of gobernements, and then from people. We need to know that when the people in charge make mistakes or take good decisions is normal people who has to pay for that. We have to know also that there are people who really can’t stay at home, so people that can stay, must do it. That way hospitals won’t collapse and we all are going to put end to this situation. The best way to solve this pandemic is beeing responsible and know our country situation so we can empatize.
